J. Emmet Casey-87, died surrounded by family September 20, 2016.

Emmet was born at home on November 13, 1928 at W.104th St., New York City.  One of 11 children born to Edward P. Casey and Katherine White Casey, Emmet was the last surviving of his brothers and sisters.  Born of Irish immigrants, he grew up in Manhattan where he attended The Ascension School, then to Lasalle Academy, and on to St. John's University for his BBA and received his MA from New York University.  He served proudly in the U.S. Army from 1951 till 1953, trained in Ft. Hood, TX and on active duty in Germany as an M.P. (CPL) for the 43rd Infantry Div. Emmet married Ruth Claire Vaught in 1957.  His crowning achievement!

His career included Financial Analyst-U.S. Rubber Co., Sr. Financial Planner-Port of NY Authority (during planning and construction of the World Trade Center), Budget Director-City of Yonkers, NY, Asst. Supt. of Schools, Yonkers, City Manager of Yonkers, NY, Deputy Commissioner of Health-Westchester Cnty, NY, and Commissioner of Personnel & Civil Service-Westchester Cnty, NY. Emmet and his beloved wife Ruth moved to Savannah in 1992 after retiring from their respective careers.

He was a member of Skidaway Island Kiwanis, a mentor for students at Hesse Elementary, Board member of Medbank, Former Chair of Parish Council, and Lector for Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, Savannah.  He enjoyed visiting family overseas, golfing, the beach, and entertaining friends and family with his wife, Ruth.

All knew him as a kind, gentle, and humble man.  He was an example of great humanity, humor and generosity.  He loved his wife Ruth with an unyielding devotion.  He raised his three children with love and loyalty. His granddaughter Julia, is the apple of his eye. His family adored him and his friends and associates held him in high regard.  His gentlemanly way and warm smile will be sorely missed.

So so so sorry I could not have gotten to see uncle Emmet (as planned) before he passed. All my life I have wanted to go over and see him and uncle Frank, and now both have gone. I had intended to make a special visit to see uncle Emmet next week, but now! have cancelled. It just wouldn't be the same. Life has lots of twists and turns in it, and we casey's definitely seen to have got lots and lots of turns in our lives, just so sorry one of them didn't bring me closer to uncle Emmet and Auntie Ruth before now. My prayers are with you today Patricia, Robert and especially you auntie Ruth. May the Lord Guide and protect him home, xxx xxx xxx
